Guest Blogger: from summer to fall!

Labor Day weekend has passed us right up, the "back to school" commercials are circling the airwaves, and the sun is going to bed a little earlier every night - so you know that means summer is drawing to a close. Personally, I'm ok with it - and guest fashion blogger, Lauren Farnoosh , agrees with me, too! Miss Lauren is author of the sassy style blog 'Styled By Noosh' at  styledbynoosh.com , and here gives a few key fashion tips on layering up those fall fashions. Enjoy! . . . Transitioning from summer to fall can be an uncomfortable time. One minute it's cool and breezy, then suddenly scorching hot! Layering with lightweight clothing is an easy fix. I personally love wearing a jacket with some shorts or a skirt. This is the time of year when you can be really creative with your wardrobe and mix and match your summer and winter clothing together for fun and eclectic looks.  for more fab fashion tips head over to 'Styled By Noosh'...

GUEST POST: Brown is the New Black

A little guest post love + a male fashion perspective from my new blogger friend, Scott Wicken of  sigtweedandcorduroy.com ! Enjoy: *** While it certainly is never prudent to go against a Sicilian when death is on the line, it is imperative to listen to an Italian when it comes to things style-related.   To wit, some excellent advice from designer Domenicio Vacca on the merits of the brown shoe: "Many Americans have this idea that if you put on a dress shoe, it has to be black. But Italians—and I myself, especially—very rarely wear black shoes, except for very formal occasions like weddings and funerals. I’m almost always in brown shoes, because they just work with everything.  The beauty of brown shoes is that all the different shades let you communicate something about your personality—you tell the world you have a sense of play and character just by putting something on your feet." I, too, am a firm believer that black shoes should only be reserved for t...

Guest post time!

You heard me right...it's been far too long since I've featured a super-duper guest blogger on this chic lil' blog of mine, so when I was introduced to Luello.com and their amazingly stylish contributors, I was more than happy to have them write a guest post on this puppy! Style genius Alessia has given us some faboo tips on how to style one of summer's greatest hits: floral wedges . Read on, loves! . . . One of the trickier summer trends to style is floral patterns. Trying too hard to match the pattern with the rest of your outfit could result in you looking like a garden (yikes!). Here’s a how-to guide on tackling this flirty trend for the summer months! Forever 21 wedges , J Brand denim , American Apparel top , Forever 21 bags , Ray Ban aviators Floral is a very whimsical and fun pattern, so play off it with the other items of your outfit! Don’t be afraid to incorporate other minor floral patterns with your other pieces, but never match the pattern exactly. Use the c...

Anthropologie through the eyes of a man...

Many of you know I've had a slight Anthropologie obsession lately--all of their vintage-y looks have been catching my eye and stealing my heart straightaway! Well, to tie you over while I'm still on my Hawaiian vacation, I decided to let my comedian bro-in-law do another little shoe review --Anthropologie style (you remember his last review , don't ya?)! I have to admit that I gave him a shoe to review that wasn't your mainstream, everyday shoe...but I really do like this Scarlet & Crimson Wedge from Anthro. Here's a little glimpse into the mind of one man when it comes to shoes...enjoy & aloha! xoxo, holly in heels These shoes are from a store called Anthropologie. No man likes Anthropologie. We don't like it, because it isn’t a word! It is just some random, expensive-sounding group of letters. I am ok with Nordstrom , 'cause that sounds like a persons name. I am fine with any thrift store, because thrift is a word. And I am even fine with ...

One man's perspective

So have you ever wondered what guys think about shoes? I mean, we ladies spend so so much time on shoe shopping and picking out just the right heel with our dresses or jeans--which heels make our legs look long & lean, and which heels add a splash of color to a simple outfit, etc. etc. But what does the everyday man think of when it comes to shoes? Does he even notice? Does he really get why we spend a good amount of our hard-earned dough on shoes (and not video games or gadgets or flat screen TVs)? Well, my dear brother-in-law, Jeff , who's not only a stand-up comedian, but a motivational speaker and one of the creators of the hilarious WaterCoolerJokes.com website, offered to review these killer 4-inch platform GUESS 'Hondo' heels I've been eyeing, and I thought, hey what the heck! So guys: enjoy this refreshing male take on shoes...and gals: listen up to one funny shoe reality check! xoxo, holly in heels This shoe is made by Guess. It look...

Guest Post: work your closet.

Recently, I came across a fabulous fellow fashionista, Jamie Miller, author of the blog ' work your closet '. Jamie is a Cali native whose catchy tag-line is "if it's in your closet, it's in your budget". I love it! Inspired by fashion pages she comes across in her own advertising career, Jamie manages to find existing items in her closet and put together some adorably fresh outfits! When I saw the work your closet blog, I immediately thought--guest blogger! So here come some shoe-tips from the work your closet expert herself. xoxo, holly in heels . . . Work your closet. Work your shoes. Same thing! Sure you have a variety of shoes (what female doesn’t?) but it’s about how you can wear them differently. Holly so graciously asked me to do a shoe post, I of course was happy to oblige. Pumps are one of my favorites. Nine West’s are so comfortable and the pointy toe elongates the leg. Get one in nude and one in black. They will become staples! Strappy heel...
