Mellow for Yellow.

I have this thing for yellow. I don't know really when it happened or how it happened...but for years now, yellow just makes me so stinkin' happy. It's so unexpected, so bright and non-obnoxious. It's pretty much my favorite color of shoe & heel, that's for sure. So when I sunk my eyes into these Velveteen Platform Pumps from Forever 21 (uhhhh, who doesn't love F21?!), and then shortly thereafter noticed they were $32, I gasped with girlish glee! So soft and so feminine, and so cute with jeans :) Do you have a color that makes you just jump for joy when putting on an outfit? Any shoe or accessory color that brightens your day? Do tell! xoxo, holly in heels

Long time, no blog.

Life gets nutty. You know the feeling, right? I mean, work piles up, mail and magazines begin to take over the dining room table, and amidst the madness you end up coming home from a full day's work totally and utterly exhausted from using that little brain of yours to solve problems AND manage to be creative. Am I alone here? I sure as heck hope not! Now, don't get me wrong either--I'm not complaining (smirk). When life stacks up with busy-ness, it's good for me to stop and remind myself that it's because my life is good and rich and full of amazing things. Something I can always slow down for when life gets a little cray-cray is...you get one guess... shoes . I think that's something I mentioned when I first started this blog, too, that so many things change in life, but shoes are just something that I can always count on--my shoe size never changes, and the possibilities are always endless. So when I laid eyes on the 'Thaddea' pumps by Enzo Angiolini...

Color is key.

One of my top 10 fashion rules that I tend to think of everyday is that COLOR IS KEY. Even if you're feeling like it's a grey day or that a formal all-black dress is in order--a pop of color goes a looooong way. It draws the eye to the cute colorful bracelets dangling from your wrist, the thin lil' bright belt that you wrapped around your waist, or of course the brilliant shoes you decide to toss on your feet. Well, do check out these oh-so vivid platforms from none other than Jessica Simpson--the JS 'Elso' sandals . With a nearly 5-inch heel behind ya, a cute & classic t-strap, and even a dash of slick patent leather, it might be the best $89 you've spent! Show off that colorful style this summer! And geeeeeet noticed. xoxo, holly in heels

How High is Too High?

Well, it officially feels like summer now. After a few wedding showers, a graduation and a whole lotta sunshine lately, I think my mind is officially in summer mode. And praise the lord, because I needed a lil' break from the mundane, the dreary--it's time for vacations, sunscreen & hot summer style! And as I mentioned last week, platforms are all the rage right now , givin' us short gals a run for our money. But as these sky-high platforms come back into play this summer, it has me wonderin': how high is too high? Just where will you draw the line? Take these J. Simps 'Trixie' kicks for one. They are true sassy Simpson style--great leather, great pattern and texture, brassy stud-adorned, etc. etc. but wowwwwza on that 2" platform with a risky nearly 6" heel! Even my wicked-strong calf muscles just ran and hid in the closet out of sheer fear of failure! So tell me, dolls: how high is too high for you? Would you slip your pretty little foot into th...

Just nothin' like heels.

I've said it once, I'll say it again: there's nothin' like an amazing pair of heels. You can seriously MAKE a simple jeans & tee outfit by throwing on a killer pair of heels for a splash of color or texture or downright pizazz. So when I was browsing around on Piperlime.com (my usual one-stop shoe-shop), I came across some amaaaayyyzing Rachel Zoe picks when it comes to shoes. Dang, that girl knows how to pick 'em! Would you agree? Take, for one, the Matt Bernson 'Cortez' sandal . A super special triple buckle wraps this 3 3/4" heel into a summer sandal like no other. Can you picture these beauties on your summer shopping days, or even strolling down the boardwalk? I sure can. I feel like I'm always talking about the brand Elizabeth and James (I swear they don't pay me!), but the style of that label is just that good. And the song's the same with the Elizabeth and James 'Harp' wedge --a nearly 5" heel with a 1 1/4" pl...

Platform wishes

The platform sandal is back in action this season. It's official, folks! And while some are bummed because of the height these suckers bring (sorry you gorgeous, tall chicks!), this little 5'4" lady is jumpin' up & down with joy and happiness that something other than a strange leg surgery and a witch doctor can make me grow a few! Take for instance these gorge L.A.M.B. 'Kapono' platforms , now on SALE on Piperlime.com! The 'Kapono's not only bring the extra inches I'm lookin' for, but they also show off that oh-so "in" neutral color that gives even more length to nude legs. Don'tcha be scared of the 5 1/2" wedge + 1 1/2" platform--it'll only tone your calves to their fullest potential. I love the leather and textured fabric that covers the uppper part of the shoe--true unmatched style. xoxo, holly in heels

Comf.

I can't tell you how many requests I get for reviewing comfy high heels. Seems that not every girl in the world loves to sport stilettos as regularly as I do! Wellll, and I'll admit that my feetsies do get a bit tired after a while, and I need a break from the 3-inchers on the long days at work (and after work!). So, with today's post is totally, 100% dedicated to cute and comfy heels. Yep, they're out there, and they don't have to be old lady shoes in order for your feet to stay happy! Check it. This Cole Haan 'Stephanie' pump is a show stopper, and comes highly rated on Piperlime! Nike Air technology makes this air pump well-worth the investment and also makes a 4-inch heel totally do-able for an all day fling or evening affair! Comes in a great neutral brown or black leather. Great pick! You'll be shocked at the comfort this platform peep toe carries when you slip it on your dainty little feet! Maria Sharapova by Cole Haan brings us the 'Air Ren...

Stripe it up!

Hello, post-Valentine's day friends! How'd you survive all of that lovey-love madness on Monday? Me and my hubs went old skool and did a fancy steak dinner, flowers, chocolates, the whole nine. I must say I enjoyed it quite a lot! And now that we're nearing the end of February, I'm squeeeekin' by winter and givin' you a sneak peek at what spring shoes have to hold. Sound scrumptious? I'll tell ya what's scrumptious: spring stripes. You thought the nautical bug had bitten last year...well, take a look at this season. Let your jaw drop (as mine did) at the sight of these Brian Atwood patent-trim platform slingbacks . All of the right colors in all of the right spots--you get that classic navy & white stripe with a splash of bright coral patent leather. A thick and sturdy heel and platform to top it all off--could these be any more springtime perf? And while you're at it, feast your eyes on these Prada Striped Canvas Mary Janes . Green and navy str...

Grinchy Green

Sooooo it's almost Christmastime. The holidays are so often full of what most call hustle & bustle ...but I'm choosing not to get sucked into that mall-madness mess and am doing most of my Santa Claus shopping from the comfort of my own home--in my pj's, next to my fragrant Christmas tree (it's red-themed this year & beautiful!). And for some reason during this festive shopping season, I keep comin' back to GREEN shoes & garb this year. You think it's The Grinch in me, or what? Well, Dr. Suess character or not, Enzo Angiolini created this fabulous platform pump especially for Norstrom (exclusive, that's right!), and it's to die for. The 'Sully' peep-toe pump is a true sugarplum dream. It's got that comfort-fit that Enzo is known for, but stands at a striking 4 1/2-inches, with 1-inch platform (comparable to a 3 1/2-inch heel). The richly-colored dark olive suede gives it that classic & timeless look that is holiday party-re...

Platform Pretty

Did anyone else (above the age of 18) watch the series finale of The Hills last night? I sure did! Went to Taco Tuesday with my main man and afterward, he generously let me curl up on the couch and hog the tube for a few hours of my MTV-junkfood. I have to say, it is the end of an era (an era of reality tv my blood pressure & I can surely do without), and it was indeed an interesting ending! Well on The Hills Aftershow the lovely L.A. ladies were all proudly sportin' their best platforms and it got me all MTV-inspired to do a little post-show write up... Some of you may know after looking at one of my recent posts that I most def have a sick obsession with these Jessica Simpson 'Waleo' Pumps . I keep thinking about them...keeping the last tab on my Firefox browser open on them...I think I'll soon have to breakdown and hit 'add to bag'! I'm feelin' the nude leather color right now--a color bound to make my 5'4"-frame look a tad longer. No...

One man's perspective

So have you ever wondered what guys think about shoes? I mean, we ladies spend so so much time on shoe shopping and picking out just the right heel with our dresses or jeans--which heels make our legs look long & lean, and which heels add a splash of color to a simple outfit, etc. etc. But what does the everyday man think of when it comes to shoes? Does he even notice? Does he really get why we spend a good amount of our hard-earned dough on shoes (and not video games or gadgets or flat screen TVs)? Well, my dear brother-in-law, Jeff , who's not only a stand-up comedian, but a motivational speaker and one of the creators of the hilarious WaterCoolerJokes.com website, offered to review these killer 4-inch platform GUESS 'Hondo' heels I've been eyeing, and I thought, hey what the heck! So guys: enjoy this refreshing male take on shoes...and gals: listen up to one funny shoe reality check! xoxo, holly in heels This shoe is made by Guess. It look...

All the Single Ladies!

Sometimes, I wanna be Beyonce. There, I said it. Anyone else have that craving? It's pretty silly, coming from a short little half Mexican girl like myself (and I'm pretty sure no one would describe me as 'leggy', as most would describe the beautiful Mrs. Jay-Z), but I just had to say it out loud. The girl always looks so Sasha Fierce and free! Well, I got to thinking...if Miss Beyonce had a regular desk job and salary like mine, what would she be yanking off the Nordstrom shoe shelves to wear on 'girls night out' or to meet her man for happy hour? We already know the girl has a major shoe addiction , but I've decided to take a real stab at it... Lay your pretty little eyes on this pyramid-studded Steve Madden 'Hailley' Sandal ! Soft, cagey leather wraps up this 4 1/2" heel , making it your dancing companion for the rest of the summer! Ohhh, lordy look out! And has anyone noticed this amazing sale at Nordstrom on Steve Madden shoes? Included i...

I Dare You.

Once in a while, it's good to be a little daring. You know it, just admit it! Whether it's walking up to that new cutie in the office at the water-cooler, or ordering a crazy type of sushi instead of your usual boring (but tasty!) California Roll, or wearing that outfit you swore you could never pull off but now have the guts to flaunt...being a bit intrepid every now and again feels good. Builds character I'd say, you know? Well, I've got a few shoes that might challenge your bravery today, and I just dare you to give 'em a try. The amazing Diane von Furstenberg's 'Luna' High Heel Strappy Sandals are soaring to new heights at 5-inches with a 1-inch covered platform! Wowza. A true 'force of fashion this season', these Grecian-inspired lovelies are all leather with a comfy & convenient elasticized slingback. The 'Luna'-loos come in a delightful bright gold... ...and also a classic black leather. Either can easily be paired up with you...

Patterned Perfection!

One thing that I'm admiring in several designers this season is their fresh use of pattern--geometric lines and shapes and textures--when creating a new shoe. Have ya noticed? I think that's what pulls my artsy eye toward Tory Burch and Marc Jacobs! Now, I say this acknowledging fully that I'm just not in the mood for funky-busy-color patterns every day of my funky-busy-color life...but today I'm in the mood for patterned perfection, and I just had to pass it on! Lay your eyes on these babies, m'dears! This tied-up Marc by Marc Jacobs 'Gommone' platform may not say "all-day wear" to you, but it sure shows off one striking pattern to me! Spotted on a few Hollywood stars already this season, these Italian-made platforms are bursting at the seams with style (also check out this version of the M by MJ 'Gommone' platform ...orrrr even the hot orange version ). I also just couldn't keep my eyes off of this mesmerizing, patterned Lucky Br...

Cinco de Rojo!

It's Cinco de Mayo today, yay! For the people of Mexico, this day commemorates the victory of the Mexican militia over the French army at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. For the people of America, this day commemorates margarita-sipping and Corona-guzzling. Either way, I'm having chips & salsa. But to celebrate the way a real shoe-lova' does, I wanted to find a few heels with spice and kick! Well, that's basically a stinkin' piece o' cake (or flan, yum!) when you've got MyShoes.com on your side. That's right, MyShoes.com is my husband's worst nightmare, but my dream come true! If you've gotta specific shoe in mind (color, brand, heel height, price, style, etc.), just select whatever your little heart desires and MyShoes scours the net in search of the very best deals on that shoe, giving you price comparisons and even promo coupon codes!! Ahhhh, BOOKMARK THIS PAGE ladies. MyShoes helped me find these lovely red thangs...and sooo much more: Ca...

Something Fresh

I have a dear friend who just adores the color green. It's so sweet, because whenever I see her, she's managed to splash the color green into some element of her outfit--whether it be shoes or accessories or a funky hair ornament--she's always bringin' the green! I think it charms me the most because she said once that the color reminds her of growth and freshness and the start of something new. What a good thought. Well today that thought inspired to me to hunt down happy green kicks, just in time for spring 2010. I knew I could find 'em! Some of which I've actually purchased myself, so I'll tell you how they fit when they land on my doorstep. In the meantime: . . . These BP. 'Geneva' Platform Sandals can only be found at the adored Nordstrom.com (very similar to these Mia 'Cristina' wedges on Piperlime, though). They're at a killer price and are perfectly paired with wide-leg linen pants or pretty spring dresses. The green suede on t...
