Every girl needs a good, basic suede pump. It's sorta in the rule book of shoe-wearers (I swear it is!). So when I come across a fantastical, classic and comfy suede pump, it's also in the rule book to share the news! Of course I always dig when Target partners up with a top-notch designer--but it's icing on the fashion cake when they pair up with a shoe brand! I've been trying to be super good lately about my shopping habits. I know, you're probably wondering if I'm running a fever, or am in some sort of hallucinogenic'd state of mind (believe me, I can't help but stop and wonder occasionally myself these days!). But after looking at our household budget in this season of our lives, I felt like I should cool it on the weekly trips to the mall, and stop shamefully hiding shopping bags and silencing tag pulls from my husband. During the month of November you can always find me doing 2 things: Counting down the days until my family's Thanksgiving feast...and counting down the days until shopping deals begin! My shopper-girl's heart is beyond excited for Cyber Monday (the perfect way for me to stay in my turkey coma and still shop!). Yep, the Monday after Thanksgiving Day in the United States is when the droves skip the long lines, and go to their keyboards for the best in online deal hunting. As I dig through my shoe closet and take a careful look at my favorite work pumps to wear on a daily basis, I find that they all have one thing in common: suede. I just love the texture and feel of suede pumps. They show off that softer side of my style--the classic girl that occasionally shows her face when the eclectic artsy girl needs a wardrobe break. Not the Lady Gaga type of attention--the outrageous, runway-only type of shoe--but the type of heel that you want to slip on when you're leading a big-time boardroom meeting, make a meaningful presentation, or heading out to a high school reunion. You know, when you just need that extra "umph" of confidence. A current crush of mine for this fall/winter's trend season has got to be the steel-toe sass on heels, flats and boots out there right now. I, too, have been filling my closet lately with metallic capped shoes and loving their wannabe girl in command attitude. Everyone needs a good pop o' color every now and again. As the season changes and the clouds roll in (which I love, don't get me wrong!), I can't help but need a dash of bright in my wardrobe each day. And of course, in true Holly in Heels fashion, I like to say it with shoes. After a fab tip from my friend over on the Glitter & Grace blog, I made my newest colorful shoe purchase from Forever 21 . These gorgeous cone heel pumps , in a lovely coral or teal, were such a steal, and the perfect addition to my shoe closet wardrobe! In this case, I opted for the teal color (although I coulda purchased both for this crazy-good price!) and they of course turned out to be the perfect color kick to my week. Paired with a black pencil skirt + a black and white striped sweater, I felt like I had a lil' extra swing in my step! Nothing like a good heel to brighten my day. Mondays are hard for me. It's always like I could use just one more day to sleep in and stay in my pajamas until noon, before throwing on a baseball cap and heading to run my errands. So after a busy weekend and a busy Monday, there's nothing I'd rather come home to than a big, shoe-box-shaped cardboard box carefully placed on my doormat. It's like the box is welcoming me home. And when that oversized box has an adorable pair of shoes (that I may or may not have forgot I ordered) in it...Ooooo, watch out! A sure cure for a case of the Mondays. Every gal needs a pair of solid, shout-out-loud, rockstar heels. Am I right? I believe I am. Once in a while, you need to get out of those almost expected everyday heels and head for the extreme, head-turning kicks. I know, I know...it may sound a little scary at first, but once you step into some crazy-cool heels that push the limits, pair them with some hot, hot skinny jeans and a few of the right gems--you're an instant knock out! Jeffrey Campbell is always pushing the limits, with his edgy designs and towering heel heights. I have to say, I'm not always running to the Campbells, but for rockstar heels, he's my man. Sooooo, the fall preview for Neiman Marcus just hit the web waves, and it has none other than PUMPS written all over it! Yep, as far as I can tell the Fall 2011 trends are pointing to rich reds & purples, leopard love, round-toe and peep-toe too. From Jimmy Choo, to Tory Burch--my faves are splashed all over the NM page of fall finds. Here's a chic peek at what's the come. What's YOUR fave? The Brian Atwood leopard print platform pump is topping my list of lovelies today--tall and chic and insanely gorgeous with any fall outfit! I just love the history on shoe designer guru Brian Atwood--a Chicago native, this style guru studied art and architecture until he wound up in the presence of Gianna Versace, becoming the first American designer Versace hired. And the rest is history (and good shoes), folks! Love his "old Hollywood meets modern European" designs. I just dig the flared + funky heel on Miu Miu's suede peep toe heel , don't you? J.Crew is one of my favorite brands--although my wallet can't always afford every single item on their classic wooden racks, I'm always perusing their website and finding fun basics, bright neons, and inspiration galore. And when my eyes hit their shoe selection...ooooo baby, I'm hooked! So here are a few of my J.Crew summer shoe faves--some you might fun as simply irresistible as I do. J.Crew's suede 'Mona' pumps are the perfect, classic low heel shape and style for work time + playtime. Although the 'Mona's' come in 3 different lovely shades, I'm rootin' on the wild berry color, which is the perfect summer pop o' color.
