Stopping to celebrate LOVE.

Valentine's Day. It's a super special day to me. Yes, like many women in American, I'm a total sucker for red roses, a good box of candy, and a dinner date on the town. Now don't get me wrong, I feel totally and utterly loved by my main man 365 days out of the year - but there's something about St. Valentine and all that his day means, that makes me so grateful we stop to celebrate love . This year, my guy earned some BONUS POINTS due to a surprise flower delivery to me from Farmgirl Flowers - heard of them? Farmgirl Flowers first caught my eye on a show we domesticated couples like to watch, called " The Profit ." Sorta akin to "Shark Tank," "The Profit" centers around small business and entrepreneurs, and helping them improve upon their existing businesses. The founder of Farmgirl Flowers caught my fashionista eye, and my husband paid attention. So this year, instead of the standard red roses and chocolate mix box, I got fresh 10...

From heels, to...

A lot of you follow yours truly on not only this fine and dandy blog, but also my Instagram and Facebook fanpage. And if you do, you know that my style has changed a little bit over the last few months. Yes, it is true, since keeping busy with my freelance writing work, as well as my brand spakin' new  Instagram Pop-Up Shop , I have found myself sporting the finest in flats, boots and booties. At first it was hard to let go of my heels - sifting through my heel closet was one of my favorite parts of my morning routine. But now, I must say that I am absolutely obsessed with the expansion of my shoe-loving mind. What was once a "heels only" girl is now a full-fledged boot obsessed fashionista. I can wear my boots and booties all day long, dash to coffee to do some writing, and not feel overdressed...but still have that style. I have boots with studs, boots with fringe, booties with buckles - you name it! But the go-to boot that I keep coming back to over and over aga...

Winter style in sunny California.

Ok ok ok, I will be the FIRST to admit what a wimp I am when it comes to winter. My fuzzy wool fedora seriously goes off to the people who live in the Midwest or the East Coast where freezing temperatures are well below what we experience here in sunny California!  So when the 40's and 50's roll around in the forecast, I sadly push my tees and tanks to the back of the wardrobe until May, and start to stock up on cozy pullovers and wool scarves. It's kinda fun for a change, really!  The key to mastering winter style in California is to keep it fresh . It's super easy to get stuck in a rut of solids and stripes - but if you keep your winter style new and fresh, it's bound to perk you up like a good latte in January. Geometric patterns are a strong accent to any top, polka dots keep style spunky and young, and mixing colors and stripes is key to keeping it interesting. And don't you forget the power of a colorful, patterned scarf!    'JANE...

Your boyfriend's boots.

Soooo, I recently ran into the brand Rockport , who I have to admit I had heard of years ago, but hadn't really come across it in a while. There's been a ton of buzz surrounding their #PoweredByHeels #Sweeps as of late, where Instagrammers are posting their favorites from Rockport's Total Motion line, check it out here for a peek ! Browsing and clicking through the Total Motion line , I found that shoe-lovers can pick up insane comfort and flexibility in a shoe as you walk, trot, bend, and move in these beauties. And best of all, like all Rockport kicks, Total Motion shoes are crafted with care with the finest leather and suede out there. Check out the dozens of superb styles, including women's ballet flats, women's wedge shoes, lace-up wedge shoes, women's dress pumps, and more more more! I, personally, sprang for something a bit unlikely, the Total Motion Boot came in this awesome boyfriend style that I have been looking to pair with some skinnies and an...

Moving on.

Well folks, I've done it. As of last week my family of 3 and I picked up and moved to a whole new city, a whole new part of California. Aside from going from apartment to apartment, post-college, I haven't really done a big move. See, the house we said goodbye to was the home of A LOT of things: where my husband proposed to me, where we came home as Mr. & Mrs., where we had endless parties and family dinners (including an epic 30th birthday, where the living room was cleared out to make room for a live band!), and where we brought our newborn babe home. Not to mention, it was also the home of my shoe closet ! Sigh! It's a big change, and today has honestly got me feeling a bit homesick, so I decided to think about that AMAZING things that my new city has to offer... One of those things is boot weather ! For the first time in a long time, I'll be able to dwell in my yummy leather boots for longer than a week! Hoooooray! This fall, there are so many adorable short ...

The Fashion Sneaker: one shoe you need now.

Essential to every girl's closet is a good pair of sneakers. I know, it may seem odd coming from a girl who has "heels" as part of her nickname, but I'm assuming you all have a solid pair of heels and are just in need of a few alternatives. When it's one of those rainy, cloudy, jeans n' tee sorta days, then I will be the first to admit that I don't want to throw on my suede heels or my platform wedges. Oh no no, I want to slip into something a little more comfy and friendly - but not skip the style. That's where the fashion sneaker comes in: the one shoe you need now (if you don't have it already!). Vans, Steve Madden and Vince are just a few brands that have carefully mastered this fashion, too. With some fantastic slip-ons, and great textures like pony hair, textile and metallics, you're sure to find the perfect fashion sneaker that fits your sass and style. Here's a peek at my top 3: 1. Steve Madden 'ECENTRIC' 2. ...

It's a societal end-of-season.

"Where chic is effortless and cool costs less." - loooove the motto of Sole Society , one of my go-to shops and brands for high quality shoes, handbags and accessories. It's sorta their thing to give shoppers amazing prices, affordable styles and still pull off a chic look around town. That's always been sorta my thing too - I'm an everyday kinda gal, who doesn't make six figures (yet!), so why should I drool over high-designer shoes, when there are so many affordable options out there under $200! Plus, spend $70 on heels, that gives me $30 for a cute new accessory, $50 for some killer boots, and maybe $60 for a brand new handbag. My logic is right on, I think you'll agree. So when Sole Society has an end-of-season sale, I jump right on it! Right now, they have dozens and dozens of on-trend boots + booties for a whopping 50-60% OFF ! Feast your eyes on the sexy, sassy 'DES' ankle bootie - ready for a hot, tiny dress and a night out on the t...

Booties in a new light!

Winter is upon us - to my East Coast friends who are feeling the (freezer) burn, my apologies. This California girl has a scarf on, along with some ankle booties, and I'm still claiming cold! But no matter what coast you leave on, there's one thing that you need in your closet this season: neutral booties. A stylish, neutral ankle boot is the perfect shoe to give a little kick to that boring winter outfit. Buckles, suedes, zippers, you name it, Piperlime.com has it right now. Check out their neutral booties picks here ! Yep, you do. xoxo, holly in heels

A MUST: the basic suede pump.

Every girl needs a good, basic suede pump. It's sorta in the rule book of shoe-wearers (I swear it is!). So when I come across a fantastical, classic and comfy suede pump, it's also in the rule book to share the news! These pointed toe, women's sueded pumps from Old Navy are under $30 (oh yeah!), and the ultimate must-have. A lovely 3-inch heel props up a sueded upper heel, with a cushy rubber sole. The sole isn't all that's cushy, though - these pumps flaunt a cushioned footbed that make all-day-heel-wearing a breeze! Perfect to throw on your feetsies with a simple torn jeans + white tee casual day...or add a dash of color to your little pencil skirt + collared shirt outfit for work. Style your suede this season, dress it up or down, and get some basic suede pumps in that wardrobe, why don't ya! Your outfit will be happy you did. xoxo, holly in heels

OMG. Anthropologie.

OMG. Why is Anthropologie always so stinkin' cute?! Every time I take my stylish little steps into that store, I walk out feeling soooo inspired by the outfits I see, the shoes on the shelves, and even the warm, home-y smells of carefully lit candles. And since I'm on a boot kick this month (cold weather will do that to a gal), I of course had to check out the boots at Anthro. They currently have a delicious selection of boots - leather, suede, and short, tall - but the one that stuck out to me amidst the sea of style were these 'Botanical Booties' by Sheridan MIA . Anthropologie boots are outstanding - I have never been bummed when I've purchased a pair myself. And these, I am certain, are no different. These botanical beaut's have some great texture in their design - almost like a real piece of artwork on your toesies. Adorned with a side zip, rubber sole, and a nice stacked 2" heel, the leather knots and detail are a perfect match for a simple jeans +...

Black Friday hangover with Sole Society

So I neeeeever do this, but for some reason yesterday I totally caught the Black Friday fever! I set my alarm for 5:30am, and opened my peepers to the sound of silence in my house...and it inspired me to jump outta bed, jump into my sneakers and throw up a ponytail for a little early shopping trip! It was quite a success, I must say, and I knocked nearly all of my Christmas shopping out of the way! Now, I can enjoy most of December without thinking about what I'll get so-and-so. But now that my tired Black Friday, early-riser hangover has kicked in, I figured I'd blog a little today and tell you about some pre-Christmas treats I recently snagged for myself. Why the heck not?! If you are a shoe, handbag or accessories maven like me, I'm sure you know of Sole Society . Mainly known for their fashionable kicks, and recently launched line by the adorable Julianne Hough , Sole Society flaunts all sorts of great stuff, for a price that's juuuuust right. My recent wears are ...

Diamonds are a girl's best friend.

As we enter November and the holiday shopping season begins (yipee!), it's time to make a list and check it twice for gift-giving! I absolutely love to give gifts, personally - it's fun to browse and see what's out there in the stores, local boutiques, and of course online. From bargain to luxury, seems there's something for everyone on the shopping list! And guys, listen up: if you want to do right this shopping season, remember the key phrase "diamonds are a girl's best friend" - it's true! Ok ok ok, shoes...yes...it's a given, but what goes better with a stellar pair of black patent leather stilettos, than a pair of to-die-for hoop earrings , or a an gorgeous diamond bracelet ?! I think you're catchin' my drift here... This season, I'm diggin' the bling on Anjolee.com - where diamond tennis bracelets, earrings, necklaces and wedding rings are fine jewelry store's specialty! Since 1977, this San Diego-based fined jewelry ...

With a Bow On Top!

Browsing one of my go-to's, Piperlime.com , and came across these lovely, lady-like Kate Spade pumps. I think I'm in love. Adorable and appropriate for any season, these Kate Spade heels are perfectly shaped, styled...with a bow on top! The 'Krysta' by Kate Spade New York glitter pump has Carrie Bradshaw written all over it: 'Karolina Bow' by Kate Spade New York is equally fabulous, with a more conservative spin: Ms. Spade is known for her quality shoes, bags, accessories, and more--why not add these beauties to your shoe closet collection?! xoxo, holly in heels

Torn on a wedge.

As I browse the shoe sites and blogs in my daily routine this week, I continue to come across a trend that I'm just still undecided on: wedge sneakers . You know the kind--a high heel version of a sporty sneaker, with absolutely no athletic use at all. A heel that sheepishly hides behind a Nike swoosh or a pair of Velcro straps, but nonetheless, is worn by dozens of stylish celebs! Wedge sneaks originally were in style in the great decade of the 90's--you know, when Alanis was all the rage and 90210 was your favorite prime time show! These high-heeled high tops could be spotted in clubs and raves, and later on the sweet feet of British pop band, the Spice Girls (before Posh Spice married Beckham!). But in late 2012 and now 2013, wedge sneakers of the season range anywhere from metallic materials in silver and gold, to colorful suedes, and even throwback mesh materials. Brands like Steve Madden, MICHAEL by Michael Kors, and Ash have jumped on board with their styles, as s...

It's 2013!

Another year is here! I must say that 2012 was a fab year of blogging and browsing, writing and reading, shoe shopping and shoe strutting...but I'm beyond excited to be starting a fresh, new year with lots to look forward to. And since I never do it, I figured I'd start anew and make a (short) list of hopes and resolutions for 2013! So here goes nuthin'...   1. Hand write & mail a letter to a friend each month 2. Play the piano at least once a week 3. Plant a new garden 4. Dream & then make it happen 5. Talk about the good things, stifle the bad 6. Find adventure in everything 7. Yoga twice a week 8. Check Instagram less 9. Bring new life to the forgotten clothes at the back of the closet 10. Remember it'll all be OK...it always is! Cheers to 2013, my faithful readers! And may this year bring you every good and perfect thing. xoxo, holly in heels

'Tis the season for tights & leggings

One of my favorite parts of wintertime has got to be the fashion. Even though I live in sunny Southern California, I envy the rain and the snow in places like the Pacific Northwest and the East Coast--thinking of all of the bundled coats, scarves and boots that everyone's strutting around their city streets.  In addition to this winter-wear is one of my favorite trends this season: tights + leggings. There's just nothing like the chic, chic look of a textured or colored pair of tights, with some good high heels, too. Tights always give my favorite heels that extra oomph of style, that extra flair that I need on any given dreary winter day. And no doubt, I get compliments galore when I pick out a good pair of each. My go-to tights are made by HUE : like these mesh dot tights , cute honeycombs , artistic-inspired Geo Swirl tights , their classic Lacey Nets , or even these multi-color  Polka Dot opaque ones. Coupled with a great neutral pump, black peep-toe, or even a color...
