And if you do, you know that my style has changed a little bit over the last few months. At first it was hard to let go of my heels - sifting through my heel closet was one of my favorite parts of my morning routine. But now, I must say that I am absolutely obsessed with the expansion of my shoe-loving mind. What was once a "heels only" girl is now a full-fledged boot obsessed fashionista. I can wear my boots and booties all day long, dash to coffee to do some writing, and not feel overdressed...but still have that style. Well folks, I've done it. As of last week my family of 3 and I picked up and moved to a whole new city, a whole new part of California. Aside from going from apartment to apartment, post-college, I haven't really done a big move. See, the house we said goodbye to was the home of A LOT of things: where my husband proposed to me, where we came home as Mr. & Mrs., where we had endless parties and family dinners (including an epic 30th birthday, where the living room was cleared out to make room for a live band!), and where we brought our newborn babe home. It's 2014, y'all! I cannot believe it. Ok, I kinda can, it was Thanksgiving, then Christmas, then time for a champagne toast, and we did it all in style, so it is about time we see a new year in front of us, frankly. But when I look back on all of the good style and glamorous shoes that have come across my fashion-loving eyes this year, I feel quite compelled to take a long hard look at the best shoes of 2013! One of the (few) tragic things about living in California is that you don't get much cold weather. Especially here in Southern California, I often find myself gleefully grabbing for my cozy scarf and stylish boots as soon as the temperature hits 70 degrees! But that doesn't prevent me from going batty for boots. Oh no no, you see, I looooove boots, especially suede boots, that hit the ankle at that perfect spot. I've been trying to be super good lately about my shopping habits. I know, you're probably wondering if I'm running a fever, or am in some sort of hallucinogenic'd state of mind (believe me, I can't help but stop and wonder occasionally myself these days!). But after looking at our household budget in this season of our lives, I felt like I should cool it on the weekly trips to the mall, and stop shamefully hiding shopping bags and silencing tag pulls from my husband. I love summertime. I love the long days where I can come home from my day-job and still squeeze a jog around the neighborhood in, I love the BBQs, the pool parties, the good excuses for travel, the warm mornings with the windows open, and just the all-around feeling in the air. There are some trends in fashion that catch on--like the miniskirt or the wedge sandal or the peep-toe pump. These standards tend to stick around, and even live through generations of stylish sweethearts and fashionistas. And theeeeeen there are some trends that die quickly (and I thank the fashion gods for that!)--I'm mostly thinking of the 80's here--decked out hi-tops, slap bracelets, hammer pants, scrunchies, you get the gist. Well, one of the recent trends I came across on a recent fall fashion report, by one of my trusted sources , was the wedge boot trend. Sizes, textures, shapes and heights of all proportion, these $200+ wedge boots strike me as a fleeting fashion--somethin' you won't catch this girl wearin', that's fo sho. So it's t-minus 36 hours until the clock strikes the year 2011: can you even believe it? 2010 has been an amazing year for this little miss thang--especially because it was the year that the good ol' Holly in Heels blog began! So, we officially made it. Yep, we made it through yet another stuff-your-face Thanksgiving and probably some funny family incidents, too. Sometimes I wish I lived in the city. Not the kinda city that makes it one because it has mounds of traffic and plastic surgery (because that's the sorta place I live NOW, actually)...but rather, a place where you can get away with wearing just about anything at any time of day, and where ladies dress in formal attire when attending a show or even a steak dinner.
