From heels, to...

A lot of you follow yours truly on not only this fine and dandy blog, but also my Instagram and Facebook fanpage. And if you do, you know that my style has changed a little bit over the last few months. Yes, it is true, since keeping busy with my freelance writing work, as well as my brand spakin' new  Instagram Pop-Up Shop , I have found myself sporting the finest in flats, boots and booties. At first it was hard to let go of my heels - sifting through my heel closet was one of my favorite parts of my morning routine. But now, I must say that I am absolutely obsessed with the expansion of my shoe-loving mind. What was once a "heels only" girl is now a full-fledged boot obsessed fashionista. I can wear my boots and booties all day long, dash to coffee to do some writing, and not feel overdressed...but still have that style. I have boots with studs, boots with fringe, booties with buckles - you name it! But the go-to boot that I keep coming back to over and over aga...

Your boyfriend's boots.

Soooo, I recently ran into the brand Rockport , who I have to admit I had heard of years ago, but hadn't really come across it in a while. There's been a ton of buzz surrounding their #PoweredByHeels #Sweeps as of late, where Instagrammers are posting their favorites from Rockport's Total Motion line, check it out here for a peek ! Browsing and clicking through the Total Motion line , I found that shoe-lovers can pick up insane comfort and flexibility in a shoe as you walk, trot, bend, and move in these beauties. And best of all, like all Rockport kicks, Total Motion shoes are crafted with care with the finest leather and suede out there. Check out the dozens of superb styles, including women's ballet flats, women's wedge shoes, lace-up wedge shoes, women's dress pumps, and more more more! I, personally, sprang for something a bit unlikely, the Total Motion Boot came in this awesome boyfriend style that I have been looking to pair with some skinnies and an...

Moving on.

Well folks, I've done it. As of last week my family of 3 and I picked up and moved to a whole new city, a whole new part of California. Aside from going from apartment to apartment, post-college, I haven't really done a big move. See, the house we said goodbye to was the home of A LOT of things: where my husband proposed to me, where we came home as Mr. & Mrs., where we had endless parties and family dinners (including an epic 30th birthday, where the living room was cleared out to make room for a live band!), and where we brought our newborn babe home. Not to mention, it was also the home of my shoe closet ! Sigh! It's a big change, and today has honestly got me feeling a bit homesick, so I decided to think about that AMAZING things that my new city has to offer... One of those things is boot weather ! For the first time in a long time, I'll be able to dwell in my yummy leather boots for longer than a week! Hoooooray! This fall, there are so many adorable short ...

Trend alert! Silver boots for fall.

One of my favorite memories I have with my man is the time we went country line dancing. Now now, I know I may seem more like a city gal to you, but deep down underneath this mall-strollin', money-spendin' machine is a simple girl. I remember we grabbed a few cold ones, did some two-steppin' amidst the crowded dance floor on the Central Coast of California, and got our boots a little dusty. It was quite magical! Well, in this season where leaves are changing and new chapters are beginning, I've decided that I need to drag that man o' mine back out on the dance floor and do some country line dancing once again (plus, a cold beer sounds pretty delish!). I, of course, cannot even think about doing this without getting some brand new boots - and the trend alert for this season is silver boots ! Silver cowboy boots are taking a front seat right now - they're gorgeously metallic, and perfectly paired with dark denim or even skinny black jeans (also on-trend ...

It's a societal end-of-season.

"Where chic is effortless and cool costs less." - loooove the motto of Sole Society , one of my go-to shops and brands for high quality shoes, handbags and accessories. It's sorta their thing to give shoppers amazing prices, affordable styles and still pull off a chic look around town. That's always been sorta my thing too - I'm an everyday kinda gal, who doesn't make six figures (yet!), so why should I drool over high-designer shoes, when there are so many affordable options out there under $200! Plus, spend $70 on heels, that gives me $30 for a cute new accessory, $50 for some killer boots, and maybe $60 for a brand new handbag. My logic is right on, I think you'll agree. So when Sole Society has an end-of-season sale, I jump right on it! Right now, they have dozens and dozens of on-trend boots + booties for a whopping 50-60% OFF ! Feast your eyes on the sexy, sassy 'DES' ankle bootie - ready for a hot, tiny dress and a night out on the t...

GUEST POST: It’s a Boot World and We’re Just Living in it!

Today I'm thinkin' of spicing things up a bit - it's bee a little too long since I've had a male voice on this fashion blog, and I love to get a man's take on trends, and of course, shoes! So today we're getting schooled on what to look for in a men's boots, from the Clint Washington, author of   www.cheapgent.com , a shallow-walleted man’s approach to men’s fashion. Love it! Enjoy this cheap gent's perspective as we immerse ourselves in boot season! xoxo, holly in heels . . . As I head into boot season, I look through my closet and question the far-too-trendy decisions I made and the fashionably reckless person I was that year. But this year, I refuse to fall down that rabbit-hole of purchase despair. So I’ve taken a deep dive into the world of men's fashion and found some of the most functional, stylish, seasonally universal, and (most importantly) affordable boot options for every man. I’m sure you have someone in your life just like me, a ...

Booties in a new light!

Winter is upon us - to my East Coast friends who are feeling the (freezer) burn, my apologies. This California girl has a scarf on, along with some ankle booties, and I'm still claiming cold! But no matter what coast you leave on, there's one thing that you need in your closet this season: neutral booties. A stylish, neutral ankle boot is the perfect shoe to give a little kick to that boring winter outfit. Buckles, suedes, zippers, you name it, Piperlime.com has it right now. Check out their neutral booties picks here ! Yep, you do. xoxo, holly in heels

Shoe in Review: the best shoes of 2013!

It's 2014, y'all! I cannot believe it. Ok, I kinda can, it was Thanksgiving, then Christmas, then time for a champagne toast, and we did it all in style, so it is about time we see a new year in front of us, frankly. But when I look back on all of the good style and glamorous shoes that have come across my fashion-loving eyes this year, I feel quite compelled to take a long hard look at the best shoes of 2013! Let's check it... THE WEDGE SNEAKS. About this time last year, we were looking at the dawn of wedge sneakers ! A trend I was unsure about, I will admit - but it did make the magazines and the wardrobes of some stylish celebs, I will say. Some metallics, some bold colors, the sky was the limit! FLATS IT. As I was prepping for spring (and a baby growing in my tummy!), I had my eye on flats. Honestly, 2013 could have been the YEAR for flats - so many brands and trends were screaming flat nation - adorable polka dot flats, animal prints and patents and suedes l...

OMG. Anthropologie.

OMG. Why is Anthropologie always so stinkin' cute?! Every time I take my stylish little steps into that store, I walk out feeling soooo inspired by the outfits I see, the shoes on the shelves, and even the warm, home-y smells of carefully lit candles. And since I'm on a boot kick this month (cold weather will do that to a gal), I of course had to check out the boots at Anthro. They currently have a delicious selection of boots - leather, suede, and short, tall - but the one that stuck out to me amidst the sea of style were these 'Botanical Booties' by Sheridan MIA . Anthropologie boots are outstanding - I have never been bummed when I've purchased a pair myself. And these, I am certain, are no different. These botanical beaut's have some great texture in their design - almost like a real piece of artwork on your toesies. Adorned with a side zip, rubber sole, and a nice stacked 2" heel, the leather knots and detail are a perfect match for a simple jeans +...

Black Friday hangover with Sole Society

So I neeeeever do this, but for some reason yesterday I totally caught the Black Friday fever! I set my alarm for 5:30am, and opened my peepers to the sound of silence in my house...and it inspired me to jump outta bed, jump into my sneakers and throw up a ponytail for a little early shopping trip! It was quite a success, I must say, and I knocked nearly all of my Christmas shopping out of the way! Now, I can enjoy most of December without thinking about what I'll get so-and-so. But now that my tired Black Friday, early-riser hangover has kicked in, I figured I'd blog a little today and tell you about some pre-Christmas treats I recently snagged for myself. Why the heck not?! If you are a shoe, handbag or accessories maven like me, I'm sure you know of Sole Society . Mainly known for their fashionable kicks, and recently launched line by the adorable Julianne Hough , Sole Society flaunts all sorts of great stuff, for a price that's juuuuust right. My recent wears are ...

Batty for boots.

One of the (few) tragic things about living in California is that you don't get much cold weather. Especially here in Southern California, I often find myself gleefully grabbing for my cozy scarf and stylish boots as soon as the temperature hits 70 degrees! But that doesn't prevent me from going batty for boots. Oh no no, you see, I looooove boots, especially suede boots, that hit the ankle at that perfect spot. At my last trip to Nordies, I was tempted by these BP. 'Trolley' Ankle Boots in Navy (also pictured below in Burgundy Suede). At an awesome price of $99, these may just be the only boots you need for the entire season. The block heel measuring at 3" is just right, and the brass side zipper is that adorable added accent of style. Enjoy this amazing fall weather, my friends, and get out to enjoy the fall breeze in some stylish boots! xoxo, holly in heels

Best boots for fall.

Today, the weather in So Cal is changin'. Ah yes, we went from sunny days of 80+ degrees to an overcast, cloudy day in the 70's! And I have to say, I'm loving it. Forever 21 is currently boasting some pretty amazing boots - adorned with buckles, straps, and suede...   Sleek Faux Suede Booties, $36.80   Runaro un d over-the- knee boots, $44.80   Must- H ave Buckle Booties, $42.80 These might just be some of t he best boots for fall. So enjoy that cooler weather, wherever the heck you are, and sport your fall style proudly ! xoxo, holly in heels

Ok...now I'm ready.

I love summertime. I love the long days where I can come home from my day-job and still squeeze a jog around the neighborhood in, I love the BBQs, the pool parties, the good excuses for travel, the warm mornings with the windows open, and just the all-around feeling in the air. Oh, and of course I love the SHOES--wedges, sandals, and any other heel that shows off my non-stop pedicure! But it's usually right around now, every year, that I begin to spy on the upcoming fall fashions and long for the days where the leaves change color (and so does my shoe closet!). And my summer-lovin' heart especially jumped for joy when I saw these new suede Desert Wedges from TOMS shoes :   ( photos courtesy of TOMS ) In 3 fabulous fall colors, TOMS shows off their latest fall design with this solid 2 3/4" wedge, lined inside with wool plaid, topped off with the softest suede this side of the Mississippi. These awesome wedge booties would pair well with ANYTHING--skinny jeans, l...

Am I off here?

There are some trends in fashion that catch on--like the miniskirt or the wedge sandal or the peep-toe pump. These standards tend to stick around, and even live through generations of stylish sweethearts and fashionistas. And theeeeeen there are some trends that die quickly (and I thank the fashion gods for that!)--I'm mostly thinking of the 80's here--decked out hi-tops, slap bracelets, hammer pants, scrunchies, you get the gist. Well, one of the recent trends I came across on a recent fall fashion report, by one of my trusted sources , was the wedge boot trend. Sizes, textures, shapes and heights of all proportion, these $200+ wedge boots strike me as a fleeting fashion--somethin' you won't catch this girl wearin', that's fo sho. Now, you gotta be honest with me, readers--am I off here? Are these wedge boots a piece of something you'll be sportin' around town? Do tell! xoxo, holly in heels
