It's never too late for sandals!

So, it ain't fair, I know, but livin' in sweet & sunny Southern California allows us west coast gals to bask in the warm sun for 90% of the year--and even keep our sandals close by to throw on and head to the beach or the mall! We are spoiled, I know, but I really have grown accustomed to the fact that 85 degrees is HOT and 65 degrees is chilly! Well, not only does this allow for lots of happy hours on the patio or even year-round bbq'ing in our backyard...it allows me to snag some stinkin' sweet deals on sandals when they're goin' on clearance, without having to wait til next spring to sport 'em!

Specifically, I'm currently boasting about my recent Piperlime purchase of the long-time coveted Emma Pink 'Laria' wedges:

Months and months ago, I blogged about these pink beauties (way back when they were $98!), but patience is indeed a virtue in this case, 'cause they just got marked down tremendously to $29.97! My lovely 'Laria's cheerfully greeted me at my doorstep in a gorgeous green Piperlime box last night as I arrived home--and I was jumpin' up & down like a schoolgirl when I finally placed them on my feet! Nothin' like a good shoe-bargain.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it! I'd encourage you to also shop that wicked Piperlime.com SALE and snag those shoozies you've been eying all year. It's never too late for sandals!

P.S. Entered my giveaway yet? You know you wanna!

Today marks the day of a brand new job for me! That's right, I'm movin' desks and findin' myself in the big bad world of marketing. I'm super excited to take this next step in my career--even purchased a cute, new mod lamp to make my bare, baby desk feel a tad bit more like home. After a generous cup o' joe to send me on my merry way, I'll no doubt be throwin' on my work-ready kicks--perfect to pair with pencil skirts and dress slacks. I figured to mark this fun, special day in my oh-so grown up life (when did that happen?!), I'd do a little post dedicated to just a few of my favorite work shoes...

Maybe as basic as they come, Steve Madden's 'Ulltra' pumps are a go-to in my Monday thru Friday closet. Perfectly patent and wonderfully nude, they truly pair with anything and everything. Someday, I might even consider investing in the black patent pump--which is a sure classic for the wintertime. This is a great, round-toe pump that all workin' women should own! No joke.

Comin' in a close second to Mr. Madden's 'Ulltra's is his own 'Trinitie' pumps in soft grey suede. I recently purchased these lovely thangs, and discovered that they have some sorta magical ability to make any outfit look soooo so polished. Hey, and they make my short little legs look Heidi-Klum-long too, which you'll never find me complaining about!

This fall, I'm not only going to sport the basic work-pumps, but also plan to kick it up a notch with oxford-style wedges. The preppy-prep look is waaaay in, and I've got no shame in staying with that trend! Sam Edelman's 'Wakefield' wedge booties are stealin' this school-girl heart, with a lace-up front and a cute collared opening. I foresee many 'a cute outfit in these suckers! Do ya blame me?!

Well, off I go! Wish me luck. :)

P.S. Don't forget to enter in my sugar-sweet giveaway! It's super easy and you just might end up being the cutest little cook on your block! Do it to it.

Style begins at home: another giveaway!

I love to bake. I know, I know...usually us fashionistas spend too much time at the mall and not enough time in the kitchen--but it's no secret that I make a killer banana nut bread and can throw together some yummy-yum choco chunk & peanut butter cookies in a heartbeat! It's sorta a rule in our household now--my hubs cooks (better at improvising) & I bake (best at following directions). Ya think it says somethin' about us?! Well, all Freudian predictions aside, I always like to have something sassy to wear as I'm throwing the flour and brown sugar around the kitchen, and coming up with a sweet creation--don't you? That's why I was utterly IN LOVE when I came across Fashionista Aprons from Susan and Veronica. And wanna know somethin' great?!--we're givin' an apron away! I recently interviewed these lovely leading ladies to ask them a bit more about their cute, cute business and the special cause behind it.

1) Tell us about "Susan and Veronica: Style begins at home" and how you ladies got started:
Susan and I worked at MTV together for years. We bonded immediately on our love of music and fashion. We still talk about the days we used to take off together so we could hit all our favorite shops and buy all our must-haves of the season. After MTV, I pursued a career in fashion PR and then shifted to managing several small businesses. Susan remained at MTV while actively tweaking her creativity with design and garment construction classes. She also designed an uber sassy line of handbags that quickly became a part of my everyday wardrobe. For my bridal shower, she pulled from her fabric collection and designed what came to be our Honey Kiss Waist Apron. It was an instant hit among our family and friends so we began developing the apron line. Style Begins at Home was the perfect way for us to communicate to our customer that there was no longer a need to sacrifice style while whipping up a meal at home. To us, staying in can still become an event!

2) What or who inspires each apron & its style?
We were inspired by the idea that the women who spend time in the kitchen cooking and baking were the same women who love to look fabulous when they go out. We were creating a product for women like us so we had to ask ourselves what we would want in our apron. We wanted bold colors and prints with a design that shouted femininity and incorporated functionality. The Sugar Bomb Strapless Apron was created because we hated getting our hair caught in the straps and were looking for an alternative. A strapless option seemed practical and also added a hint of sauciness.

3) Give us one tip about how we can start style at home:
The best thing to do is get out of those baggy sweats! We love them too but it's so easy to fall into an everyday sweats rut and throw your personal style out the window. Whether you work from home or are a full time mommy, try some other comfy alternatives. Black leggings with a relaxed tee and a comfy flat shoe are a start. And of course, don't forget to wear your Susan & Veronica Apron!

4) What's the story behind the PINK RIBBON apron & where can we get our hands on one?
The Pink Ribbon Apron, was inspired by my sister in law who was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 33. Susan and I decided to create a Pink Ribbon Apron as our heartfelt show of support for all the breast cancer survivors and all the women still in the daily struggle. We have partnered with the Young Survival Coalition and donate a percentage of our Pink Ribbon Apron proceeds to their organization. However, we are excited to announce that we are celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month this year by donating a percentage of proceeds from ALL Susan & Veronica Apron sales to the YSC!

Silly for spats

Call me crazy (maybe even undereducated) but when I laid my eyes on the new 'spat boots' trend about to enter the shoe-scene, I thought to myself, "those are adorable!...too bad I don't know why they heck they're called spat boots!" Wellllll, with wikipedia to rescue, I discovered that a spat is a type of classic shoe accessory covering the instep and ankle. Spats were primarily worn in the late 19th & early 20th centuries, and even still used as a traditional accessory in many marching band uniforms in the U.S. Think Michael Jackson's late-80's Smooth Criminal music vid and you'll remember what I'm talkin' about! This week, my all-time fave Piperlime.com is featuring the ever-growing spat boot trend, and you betta' believe I'm all over that!

Very Volatile's 'Cloak' boot immediately caught my eye (and is also a Rachel Zoe pick, fancy that!). The smooth (criminal?) black or taupe leather gives it that classic finish, and a simple low-boot look really goes a long way this fall! Hey, and at 60-smackers, ya can't go wrong!

Steve Madden rarely goes wrong, in my humble opinion--and this 'Carlsen' boot is no different! My heart just started beatin' a little bit faster when I saw this velvety take on a slouched look. A manageable 3 1/4" heel makes this a fabulous all-day boot staple, ready to throw on with skinny jeans or your perfect pencil skirt.

I know the price is on the steep side, but I couldn't help myself from showing off these gorgeous Elizabeth and James 'Mane' boots. This ultra-chic, tall pull-on boot has a beautiful, weathered look to it, and a mayyy-jorly unique curved 3" heel. Favorite detail: pleats up the side. I swear, only E & J can give you this sort of fashionista status!

To stay true to my own personal style prefs, I've just gotta finish this post off with a brown boot! Browns, tans and taupes are what I usually reach for in my closet--maybe it's a brunette thang, who knows. Anyhow, a new-to-me brand, Gentle Souls, is knockin' my socks off with their 'Oh Shucks' rounded toe boot in lovely distressed brown. I say these boots are for the style queen OR the nature girl. The cuff on this baby is not too too cuffed, and of course the outstanding detail on these spat boots is the laced up back. So super sexy, and ready to kick your outfit up a few notches instantly!

Ready to march into fall in your new spat boots? I adore!

Wang on the runway

It's about this time every year that I begin to wish I lived in New York. All of the other months I'm a happy, happy Cali-girl, but fashion week has got to be the envied event of the year--hosted in NYC when the weather is deliciously perfect, pre-fall. Well, featured on the NYFW runway on Saturday, sporting his white-out Spring 2010 line, was the San Francisco-born, 26-year-old designer, Alexander Wang. Mister Wang believes that "a tee and jeans can be as stylish as a silk dress" so in 2009 he launched T Alexander Wang, a slouchy-sexy line of tees, tanks and jersey dresses! Pretty fun, huh?! He's also held the prize of several coveted awards, including the Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund Award, and the Swarovski Designer of the Year Award. But let's have YOU to be the judge this time on AW's uber-unique Fall 2010 shoe collection, featuring lots of brand new vibes and tall square chunky heels...

Alexander Wang's 'Alana' boots are made of heavenly, velvety goodness, and stand at a nearly-nutty 4 1/2" tall (with 3/4" hidden platform). They hit about mid-calf with stitching detail up the middle and around the top opening of the boot.

Or hav'a look at these 'Addison' pointy-toe, dual colored boots. A faded yellow creeps up on this all-leather brown boot, that stands at just over 5-inches tall. Runway only, or could you see yourself on the street with these puppies on?
Check out the black & blue leather version of the 'Addison' platform boots from the fall collection, too (and try not to be too too distracted by those pokey ribs comin' outta that boney model, sheesh!).

The Alexander Wang 'Constance' bootie is probably the most tame of the runway group, with it's muted, black leather and slight touch of blue to highlight the toe. Long laces tie at the ankle for a more conservative finish to this high-fashion heel. Personally, I think this one's kinda funky-fun! Pretty sure I could strut my stuff thru the dirty sidewalks of NYC in the 'Constance' bootie!

Whatchoo think about Alexander Wang? Yay or nay? Do tell!

Sometimes I seriously obsess about a certain style of shoe. I see one version in a mag or on a cute, stylish gal on the street, and I go home and search, search, search the internet trying to find a shoe just as adorable (or even more so!). I will not rest until I find it! I went thru that with the leopard pump (luuuuv that animal prints are back for fall), and also about the platform clog that made it's hippie-origin'd comeback. But this week, it seems to have been peep toe oxfords. Yes yes, if you came over and borrowed my laptop, chances are you'd find that's been the most popular google search of the week! This sassy spin on traditional, school-girl inspired oxfords is the perfect shoe addition to your work week outfit, or out-to-dinner garb.

Call me crazy, but Amazon.com has some truly great deals on shoes! It's in my new routine to never buy a shoe online from any of the major shoe-sites before doing a quick search on Amazon. I consistently find the same shoes for lower prices! Just a tip. Well, this Corso Como 'Violet' peep toe is no exception to the rule. Silky smooth leather, and a laced-up front, these are gorgeous and still manage to be comfy!

Or try on for size this Moda Spana 'Jeunesse' Oxford. A soft, soft suede and one understated 3" heel will have you traipsing the town in style! I especially dig the shiny leather piping that curves across & around the pump (even around the peep toe opening!). So so cute and just the right price.

Ever wanna throw a little color in the mix? Just to spice things up a bit? Well, here's the answer to your prayers: A. Marinell's 'Elton' peep toe pumps. Don't you just uh-dore the retro-feelin' red suede (can you say Elton John?!), and the floral cut-out detail? I do, I do! A flattering tapered heel, standing at 3 1/4" gives just the right lift to show off some color! Endless.com has this shoe in gorgeous taupe & classic black if you're not ready for red.

Happy almost-fall, m'dears! Can't wait to throw on some peep toe oxfords (and not have to retire my pedi!).

Beauty is all around. Let's face it--in the interesting faces of people we come across, the bright colors of sunshine & sky, in a cloudy autumn morning, even in a fresh cup o' coffee, there is bright, shiny beauty. I find beauty in all of these things...but I really find beauty in a fabulous pair of shoes. I can't quite put my finger on what exactly catches my eye about shoes, but ever since I was a wee one, I have adored 'em. I used to slide my tiny-girl feet into my grandmas black patent pumps, and shuffle around the house, like I was in charge! I love that there are endless amounts of texture, color, and style combination you can fiddle around with in one little pair of shoes--add a little lace or some antiquey jewels to dress it up, or make it a peep-toe for a more flirty flair. Ahh, shoe-inspired I am.

I was especially inspired by these wintery-sorta photos as captured by my photog friend, Kate Noelle. The pastels, ribbons, and ruffles have me dreaming girlish dreams about my some of favorite things: vintage bauble rings, pencil skirts, Anthropologie, the Oregon coast, tea with my closest girls--yup, all from looking at shoes! Isn't that funny?

Where do you find beauty?

Holly meets Polly

Occasionally, as I peruse the web for fashionable finds, I stumble upon some pretty fabulous online boutiques. I love it when I find a super-chic online spot that has a good SALE too--who can pass up a sale when it includes delivery right to your very own doorstep?! I love. Well, last week my style-scouting fingers came across this virtual boutique that's filled to the brim with good stuff: Plum for Polly. I love that their motto is "all your favorite things in one place"--my kinda place! Plum for Polly has not only has tons of killer threads from fave brands like Alternative Apparel, and Free People, but some pretty sweet shoes too! Their Jeffrey Campbell shoes were stealin' my heart, especially...check 'em out:

Even though summer's almost over (tear tear), I cannot help but still droooool over neutral wedges and colorful prints! Hence, my obsession over these Jeffrey Campbell 'Solares' canvas wedges. They are beyond stunning (especially with colorful toe-polish, right?). Sky high and sexy ankle tie too. Might just have to snag & save 'em for summer 2011!

For a little floral inspiration, you'll love JC's 'Charli Floral' clogs--made of leather, studded all around the base, with a sweet brushed golden buckle to finish! The JC clogs are sooooo in right now--great for you to sport in any season on the calendar. The 'Charli' clog also comes in grey & blue and brown & pink, but I'm feelin' the yellow & tan for the soft, neutral-ness that it brings (is neutral-ness a word? I just mighta made it one!).

Or lay your eyes on these Jeffrey Campbell 'Tribal Bobby-P' heels, with their gorgeous red interior! I love statement shoes like this--bound to turn heads and catch eyes all 'round town. Great heels to turn up the spice on any outfit!

Do you have any online boutique favorites? If so, please do share! So glad I could introduce ya'll to the adorable Plum for Polly. Now go shop, TGIF'ers! ...and happy long Labor Day weekend.
