Long time, no type.

You guys. Has it seriously been a full YEAR since I've typed up a blog post on here? That is both depressing and encouraging. Depressing--because I feel like I have forgotten about my first "child" my Holly in Heels blog. Encouraging--because it means that I have been suuuper busy with other fun and creative projects, like my continued PR and media copywriting, contributions to Coyote + Oak magazine out of San Luis Obispo, as well as Locale Magazine's newest San Francisco addition.

I have to admit that while these other (paying) jobs keep me busy and on my toes, I do stop and think about my former life as a fashion and lifestyle blogger, and how I miss the creative outlet. To be able to write about whatever topic I choose is certainly a gift.

Writing is also therapeutic for me--this blog is like a friend. Like the kind you can call up anytime, talk about the deep stuff and then mention this new conditioner you tried...and then switch back to the meaning of life. Well, not that I ever blog about the meaning of life here, but you know what I mean. The serious with the superficial. That is the money spot.

What has truly been keeping me from blogging more regularly, I have uncovered, is finding my identity (here comes the serious, watch out). In my former life before having children, I wore high heels to work every darn day. I had a creative job in marketing, and a shoe closet dedicated to my colorful high heel collection. Once I had Hazel, my freelance writing career kicked into gear, and I traded in my heels for hi-tops.

No joke, it was sort of ridiculous for me to have a collection of heels when all I wanted to be was comfy!

Don't get me wrong--I still love heels. Always will. But I have actually evolved to the 30-something who has a closet chock full o' suede slingbacks, stylish sandals, pointed-toe flats, a wide collection of Vans old skools, and half a dozen pairs of Birkenstocks in all shades of primary colors and metallics. I have my go-to heels for date night and particular meetings when I play dress up (or so it feels), but my every day has changed quite a bit since I started Holly in Heels.

And it leaves me to wonder--has this happened to you? Have you evolved in your style or your interests after a big change in your family or life has occurred?

So where is this all going for moi? The answer: I'm not quite sure--but several people in my inner circle have been encouraging me to start up my blog again, and find my new voice. I'm excited about the challenge and hope you will follow along with me.

Until then!
xoxo,

Shoe closet love.

I will be the first to stand up and admit that I have a fabulous husband. Not only is he smart, funny, creative and patient, but he's pretty darned hot too! I still consider us newlyweds (and probably will for quite some time), because we're always doing thoroughly silly stuff for one another--keepin' things fresh, fun and surprising, ya know? Here's one of my fave pics of us, taken a few years ago during our engagement photoshoot. Good times.

That being said, I was still simply breath-taken when I came home from a way-too-long day of work and found that my sweet beau had used his furlough day (yes, it's not just a vicious rumor that we have those all over the place in the state of CA) to transform our hall coat closet into none other than a shoe closet. You heard me right...shoe closet = every girl's dream, ya? We don't really use our hall coat closet anyway, living in such a warm southern California city, so I was thrilled to actually put this space to som…

Cyber Monday. Get that stuff.

Cyber Monday! The day when we are all glued to our phones and laptops, listening to that joyous "ding" every 10 seconds when a new email offer comes through. Let's face it, it drives us mad, but we love it. Right?

This year, the deals seem undeniable and I am snagging every one that my bank account will possibly allow! From gifts for friends, gifts for kiddos, holiday party-wear, and even some adorable everyday shoes, here are some faves from today's Cyber spectacular sales:

It's hard to find a good Anthro sale on regular priced items. I managed to snag this long leopard blazer during the 30% off Black Friday sale, but if you haven't snatched up an Anthro item (tons of great gifts, by the way!), now is your chance. The site is 20% off for Cyber Monday, with free shipping on orders over $100. Doooo iiiiit.

Everyday sneakers that are stylish and femme make the perfect gift for yourself or your BFF. If you're a mama on the go like me, then a solid pair of sn…

Lazy days

It's the end of the week, I'm slowly unpacking from my week-long vacation to my hometown and family, and utterly enjoying my last few days off. Not only have I managed to eat 3 large meals a day everyday this last week, but I also have developed a terrible addiction to words with friends on my iPhone. Help me! Ahhh, but it's days like this that I just wanna curl up with a good book + some of my favorite high heels for fashion inspiration...
